July 2013 – Fitworks Member Of The Month

Raymond Hodgson has been selected as July’s MOTM.

Ray has been with us pretty much since the start. He has always proven to be a level headed (most of the time :)) competitor who has always been hungry to improve. He has helped of athletes raise their game and lead by example.

This past weekend, Ray’s hard work and dedication lead him to a 1st place finish in the master’s division at the Hopper Event at CrossFit Moncton. But his score, despite being assigned to masters division, would have landed him an 8th place finish overall.

Thank you for what you’ve been bringing in to our community and we look forward to even more!

“How CrossFit Saint John Influenced Me?”

After playing competitive Rugby for the good part of 20yrs, I retired from the game and settled into a monotonous routine at the local Globo Gym.  Needless to say I didn’t get any “fitter” and my weight spiked to 245lbs over next couple of years.
I was introduced to my first CrossFit WOD by an old rugby teammate who said I should try this new way to train.  After a quick introduction to the gym owners, Mike and Amy,  I was introduced to “G.I. Jane” (100 Burpee Pull-Ups) and 45 mins later I was on my back wondering what in sweet Jesus  just happened??
Since that first day, I’ve been hooked by the programming and coaching I’ve received at the box and can’t imagine doing any other type of training.  The community has grown so much from the original site on Union St. to what it is today which is just an incredible group of likeminded individuals getting fitter every day!
