Member Of The Month – August 2015

Tell us a bit about yourself (family, job, sports, interests, random facts)

I am entering the second and final year of the Mechanical Engineering Technology program offered at NBCC. I was previously working at Medavie Blue Cross for a couple years but found myself in need of a change and with my other half working in Alberta I figured there was no other perfect time to go back to school. Some of my interests other than Crossfit involve playing guitar, hiking and baking.

 What were you doing for fitness before CrossFit?

I had a membership at the YMCA and ran quite a bit.

 When did you start Crossfit?

 About 3 years ago.

 What made you start Crossfit and did you have any specific goals when you started?

 A good friend of mine and fellow crossfitter, Jamie-Lynn, had convinced me to join with her. We started with boot camp and then eventually joined fulltime. I didn’t have any specific goals at the time; I was just looking for a type of exercise that never got boring.

Have you achieved those goals and what achievements are you most proud of?

 Crossfit is definitely not boring and the varied workouts everyday makes it easy to keep going back for more so I would say YES I have achieved these goals.

 THRUSTERS! We have mutual feelings for each other. I hate thrusters and thrusters hate me.

If you were to create your favorite WOD, what would it look like?

 Something with double unders, snatches and box jumps.

What are your current goals for the future? (PRs, skills, any sports/ events outside of Crossfit etc)

 I would love to be able to do a muscle up! I get jealous when I see all you guys and girls swinging around up there. Outside of Crossfit, I believe a triathlon is in order! It would be a huge accomplishment.

 What do you enjoy most about CFSJ?

 I love the awesome environment at CFSJ. Everybody cheers each other on and there is no last place. You are there to do the best that you can do. I love that it’s a competitive and supportive environment at the same time.

Do you have any advice for someone who may be considering beginning Crossfit?

 Do it! I would recommend Crossfit to anyone. The workouts can be modified to fit anyone’s needs. The coaches are awesome and the workouts are always different so there is no reason not to give it a try!

 Anything additional you would like to add?

 I would just like to thank all of you who convinced…or maybe peer pressured me into doing my first comp this year! I have now been bitten by the comp bug. It was a major confidence booster for me and I have all of you awesome people at CFSJ to thank! It is an awesome feeling to see yourself progress in areas that you thought would be impossible.
